Espresso Martini Recipe

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

If you like to entertain during the holidays, you want might to add this espresso martini to your list of holiday cocktails! This coffee cocktail is a great way to kick off your dinner party or to serve alongside an easy dessert.

I love espresso martinis because they are strong, just a tad sweet, and are gorgeous in the glass!

You could even make these in mini martini glasses which I think would look so cute served with desserts (like I did with these pumpkin pie martinis)!

What You Need To Make An Espresso Martini

You can read and print the full recipe below, but here are the ingredients you'll want to gather:

  • Espresso (you can use strong coffee instead but this martini tastes best with espresso. Definitely avoid instant coffee or espresso, they doesn't work well in this recipe)
  • Vanilla vodka (or regular vodka with 1 tps of simple syrup)
  • Kahlúa
  • Crème de cacao

Tips For Making This Cocktail

  • You must start with chilled espresso. If you use warm or hot espresso it will just melt the ice in your cocktail shaker and water down your drink
  • Shaking your cocktail shaker vigorously is key to making a frothy martini
  • Be sure to strain your cocktail into your martini glass quickly so the froth ends up sitting on top of the cocktail once poured.

Garnishing An Espresso Martini

Did you know that a traditional garnish for an espresso martini is three single coffee means? This is a traditional Italian way to finish off this drink and the three beans are said to represent health, wealth and happiness.

Fun fact: The espresso martini used to be called a Vodka Espresso
