Last year I won a VIP trip for two to the Kentucky Derby and it's where my love for all things bourbon began. I hadn't ever had bourbon before the trip but after three days I was a total convert. After that trip, I traded my go-to Moscow Mule in for a Kentucky Mule and I never looked back.
In the spirit of Mules, this Kentucky Mule recipe calls for just a few ingredients, is easy to make, and super refreshing.
You swap out traditional Ginger Beer for this blood orange version by Bundaberg which is light and sparkling just like the regular stuff. The blood orange pairs perfectly with the bourbon.
I love the idea of setting up a bar cart (just use any small table if you don't have one) with all of the ingredients so guests can serve themselves. Print out an ingredient list and they'll have everything they need to make their own Kentucky Mules. (You can watch me make one in this video on Pinterest.)
This drink is really perfect for any occasion but it'd be perfect to serve if you're watching the Kentucky Derby this weekend! Although Mint Juleps are the traditional bourbon cocktail of the Derby, these Kentucky Mules would be an excellent option!
