Are you a sauce and condiment lover like me? I love a good "something" to dip my food in! So, when the idea hit me to make this hot honey recipe, I immediately gathered the ingredients and got to it.
The first step was making the hot honey–It didn't take long to make. In fact, I shared a quick video making this recipe over on Instagram.
What is Hot Honey?
If you haven't heard of hot honey, it's basically honey you make a bit spicy by simmering chilies into it low and slow on the stove. Whats' great about this recipe is that you can make it as mild or spicy as you want.
In fact, next time I'd add more chilies to kick up the temperature a notch (I love things pretty spicy).
How to Make Hot Honey
You can read and print the complete recipe below (with measurments), but here are the easy steps to making this hot honey:
- Roughly chop the dried peppers
- Combine honey and chopped peppers into a small saucepan
- Simmer over low heat for 20-30 minutes to allow heat to build
- Remove honey from heat and stir in 1 apple cider vinegar
- Strain the honey into a jar to separate from peppers and seeds.
After the sweet-yet-spicy honey is done, drizzle it all over your fries (but be sure to reserve some for dipping)!
Making the French Fries
You can use any frozen or fresh french fries in this recipe but I think they're best if they are on the crispier side. I baked mine with a little fresh sage so the leaves would get crispy. These fries will be your vessel to enjoying the hot honey!
Once I pulled the fries out of the oven, I sprinkled with more fresh sage leaves, sea salt and paprika. Next I generously drizzled my hot honey all over them.
After devouring this first batch of hot honey fries, I am already dreaming up all the additional ways I can put this hot honey recipe to use!
Other Ways to Eat Hot Honey
I love this honey-fry combo but here are additional ways you can enjoy eating this hot honey recipe:
- Drizzled on bacon
- Drizzled over a waffle
- As dip for chicken tenders
- On a fried chicken sandwich
- In a cocktail (this would be good paired with bourbon)
Recipe Tip:
If you want to store your leftover hot honey, make sure it's in an airtight jar (a mason jar works well!). Leave it at room temp. If it hardens at all you can pop it in the microwave (remove the lid of the jar first) for about 10 seconds to warm it back up.
You might also like to add this hot honey recipe to these bacon french fries or these herb sweet potato fries. It would also taste amazing on these chicken and waffle sliders!
