On my quest to experiment with all the bourbon cocktails I can dream up, this Blackberry Bourbon Smash just sort of . . . happened. You see, I had decided to try making a Kentucky Mule because I wanted a play on the Moscow Mules I had come to love (I shared that recipe earlier this week). That's sort of what happened here; I was thinking I love Mojitos, what if I came up with a bourbon version? A the that's how the Blackberry Bourbon Smash was born.
As far as bourbon cocktails go, this currently ranks as my #1. It's. Just. So. Good.
It's light and refreshing, while bursting with flavors.
Ingredients to Make a Blackberry Bourbon Smash
You can read and print the full recipe below, but here are the ingredients you'll want to gather:
- Blackberries
- Sugar
- Bourbon
- Honey
- Mint leaves
- Ginger Beer
- Ice
You can use any bourbon you'd like but I prefer Bulliet. You can see 3 Bulliet Bourbon cocktail recipes, here.
I know that the Mint Julep is the official Kentucky Derby cocktail, but I'm swapping it for this bourbon smash this year. It's so darn good. If you'll be watching the Derby, I suggest you print out these fun (free) printable Kentucky Derby signs and whip up a couple of these drinks. If you can make a mojito, you can make this recipe–it's pretty easy. And I'm confident that after you try these, they'll make it into your summer cocktail rotation.
