Spicy Fresh Pineapple Margaritas

This spicy fresh pineapple margarita recipe is easy to make and tastes like summer vacation. Adding jalapeños to this recipe gives it some heat. If you don't like spicy drinks you can leave them out of the recipe.

The secret to this recipe is the fresh pineapple juice. If you've never made it before, don't worry it's really easy! I find the fresh juice taste a lot less sugary and much more crisp which I like.

Tips for Making Fresh Pineapple Margaritas

You can see the full recipe below (and watch me make this recipe on Pinterest in a video), but here are a few tips I've learned when making this recipe.

The Salt
I like to rim the glass with a chili lime salt. To make this you just combine about 1 tablespoon of sea salt with 1 teaspoon of chili powder.

The Spice
The trick to making these fresh pineapple margaritas spicy, is to start by muddling 1-2 slices of fresh jalapeño and lime juice in the bottom of your margarita glass. Muddling allows you to release the flavors and oils of the jalapeño into the juice.

You can use a muddling tool, but the end of a wooden spoon works just as well.

The Pineapple Juice
The fresh pineapple juice really is the star of the show in this recipe. If you must, you can substitute for store bought pineapple juice. I don't think it tastes as fresh though.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to salt the rim?

Of course not! Not everyone likes salt on their margarita glass. But if you are going to use salt, I really like the added flavor of the chili salt.

What if I don't like spicy drinks?

You can make this recipe but leave out the jalapeños. The fresh pineapple margarita is just as delicious without the spice!

What if I don't have Cointreau?

You can substitute Cointreau for any orange liqueur. Examples include: Grand Marnier, Triple Sec and Orange Curaçao.

What type of tequila should I use?

You can make these margaritas with any tequila you prefer. I like to use a silver or blanco for it's clear color.
