Purple & Yellow Dinner Party

I was trying to come up with a party theme for a 30th birthday party but nothing was jumping out to me. I decided to let the birthday girl's favorite color be the theme. That's how this purple and yellow party theme came to be!

A simple invitation. I designed the invitations, printed at home and then finished off by rounding the corners with this scrapbooking tool.

A spring wreath welcomed guests (it only cost $5 to make and really adds a nice touch!). White candle holders (a HomeGoods find) were topped with mini yellow plant pots and tucked inside were purple candles.

An eclectic group of purple and yellow flowers were put together for centerpieces. Bright yellows and shades of purple worked well together for this purple and yellow theme.

I ended up tucking a few faux flowers into the fresh arrangements. It ended up being an inexpensive way to get that deep-purple color I was looking for. Plus, the centerpieces still smelt good because of the fresh blooms!

purple and yellow place settings

Purple damask (paper) placemats and yellow linen napkins added the vibrant color to the table. I created these placemats with scrapbook paper (remember when I showed you how to make placemats?).

I also tied several shades of purple ribbons to the back of the birthday girl's chair. Even 30 year old birthday girls want to feel special, right?

To complement our Italian dinner, we had some great wine (of course!). Here is a fun sign I created (more to come on that soon!).

The next time you're coming up with a party theme, let a favorite color (or the color of the year) inspire you.

So what do you think? Are you a fan of the purple & yellow color combo for a party?

Hey there, thanks for your blog! It is quite inspiring to read about design ideas. Very thoughtful of you to throw a big 30th birthday party for your friend. One of my best girlfriend's is turning 30 soon, and your website has inspired me with some great ideas...thanks!!! I feel like our niche areas are similar. I am also interested in setting up party, food and drink parties by setting up a dining social group to get people together to have some good food and dining experience, trying different restaurants and venues in the city I live in. I would be very interested in how you set up your website, and any tips you have in growing this idea! Thanks a bunch! I love the yellow and purple colours you chose, and the flowers are so gorgeous, especially as we enter into spring! Other preferences I have for spring colours include peach and a light green. Please keep me posted on any updates to your site! Thanks a bunch :)

This is great! LOVE the flowers. I don't usually love this color combo, as it makes me think of sports teams that aren't my favorite, but you've done such a great job here that I didn't think of the Lakers once!

Thanks Susie. The ones that are faux (above) are the large dark purple ones and then the ones I used in the door wreath. I picked them up at Michael's Craft Store for 40% off!

These were my high school colors, so yes I'm a HUGE fan! I do think they are gorgeous together (regardless of team colors haha) and I think they scream SPRING like you said :)
