I typically sty home for New Years Eve myself so I'm always looking for little ways to make an at-home celebration a little more festive and fun. Here are a few ideas:

Set up an appetizer buffet! Small bites work great for grazing all night while trying to stay up until midnight.
Make a festive New Years Eve themed cocktail
Hang a disco ball from the ceiling! I did this last year and the entire house sparkle! It was so much fun I plan to do it every year! (I bought this one from Amazon)
We took a silly group picture on the hour from 5 pm until midnight! We put on funny hats, did weird poses, wore wigs. This gave us energy to stay up all night.
Play games. Depending on what your group/family likes to do you can get creative. You can play board or card games, drinking games, pictionary, or (my favorite) charades!
