If there ever was a day that deserves brunch to be a customary meal, it would be New Year's Day! After staying up late the night before, a New Year's Day brunch just makes sense.
It's also a great reason to get together with friends and family to kick off the new year together over a yummy meal in a casual setting.
Brunch just might be my all time favorite meal! There's something so appealing to lounging around a late morning table full of good food and conversation (hopefully with a mimosa in hand!).
Here are a few ideas to help you put together a low-key New Year's Day brunch at home.
How to Decorate A New Year's Day Brunch
They key to a festive yet casual brunch at home is to gather items you already have on hand (or can easily get) and use them as decor.
- A collection of clocks: I love the idea of gathering old clocks and putting them on an entry table or even in the center of your brunch table to use as decor. If you don't have these, you can typically pick them up at local thrift stores for cheap.
- All white table top: White is a symbol of a fresh start which is very fitting for ringing in the new year! You probably have white linens and plates already so this is easy to pull off. Add all white flowers for that extra touch (like I did for this spring brunch).
- Use Leftover decor: If you hosted a New Year's Eve Party, you might have leftover decor you can gather and repurpose!
- All the metalic: Go through your Christmas decor and gather anything silver, cold, or copper you can use! I love combining all the mixed metals for a festive look. Add ornaments to clear bowls or vases and use them as centerpieces.
Food For Your New Year's Day Brunch
You can make your menu as simple (did you stay up late the night before?) or extravagant as you'd like. Brunch food can go either way!
- Prepare a crowd pleaser like french toast or donuts. These baked strawberry donuts would be delicious!
- Set up a bagel bar!
- Set up an appetizer buffet which will allow you and guest to graze as you'd like
- Serve something new and trendy like a vegan butter board (who doesn't love bread and butter?)
Drinks For New Year's Day Brunch
I'm never against a fun brunch cocktail! I like to offer one or two easy cocktails and then just have champagne on ice for folks to enjoy. Here are some ideas:
- Make some pretty flower ice cubes to keep your champagne chilled
- Check out one of these 3 unique New Year's Eve cocktails
- Serve up Espresso Martinis (everyone will be so tired from the night before, these will be a hit!)
- Make a grapefruit cocktail punch and guests can serve themselves (grapefruit is a great morning flavor)
