A sunflower crown is so easy to make using flowers you can probably find growing near your house (or, you can swap the sunflowers for any blooms you might have nearby).
This entire project took us under twenty minutes to make! It was easy enough for the kids to help with.

Lately, it seems wildflower sunflowers have sprung up everywhere near our home. One day while out on a walk, my youngest daughter had the idea to make sunflower crowns together, which sounded like a great idea to me!
We picked a bunch and carried them home with us. She invited her friend to join in the DIY fun and they had fun making their individual crowns. Their favorite part was choosing the perfect flowers to use.
If you don't want to use real flowers, you can make a super simple flower headband like this one.
The entire project took us about twenty minutes to make and the fun lasted all day as they wore their crowns around while playing together.
What you need to make sunflower crowns
- 5-10 small sunflowers (you can swap in other flowers that you might have growing near you or in your yard)
- Thick floral wire, long enough to fit around head with two “loops” at each end that can hook together to secure on head (see photo below)
- Floral tape
- Scissors
Once you have all of your supplies, it's time to make your sunflower crown!
How to make your sunflower crown
Begin by gathering 5-10 small sunflowers. Trim them so stems are about 2” in length.
Using the floral tape, secure the flower to the wire crown by wrapping it a few times. Repeat for each sunflower so they overlap a bit (this will make the crown appear full).
Continue attaching the flowers until your crown in complete. When you have all of your flowers attached, simply place it around your head "hook" the two loops of floral wire so that it "clasps" and stays on securly.
These girls looked darling in their sunflower crowns!
