Jalapeno Cilantro Margarita

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

If you like spicy cocktails, you'll want to try this jalapeno margarita recipe. It knocked my socks off!

The addition of cilantro simple syrup takes this cocktail recipe to an entire new level of flavor! I'm adding this recipe to my growing "spicy cocktail" collection and filing it right next to this jalapeno martini and this spicy pineapple margarita.

Jalapeño Margarita with Cilantro Simple Syrup

What I like about this margarita recipe is that it doesn't involve a lot of ingredients, yet it tastes very sophisticated.

Ingredients For A Jalapeño Margarita With Cilantro Syrup

Ingredients for a Jalapeño Margarita

The use of fresh cilantro and fresh jalapeños make this margarita taste light and refreshing. The ingredients you need are:

  • Salt (for rimming your glass, totally optional)
  • Fresh limes
  • Fresh jalapeños
  • Fresh Cilantro
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Ice
  • Tequila

Why This Jalapeño Margarita Recipe Works

This recipe is nice and refreshing like a traditional margarita but with a light kick of heat from the jalapeño. I'm also in love with the subtle cilantro flavor that comes through in the homemade simple syrup. I'm predicting that this jalapeno cilantro margarita will be the star of  your next Taco Tuesday or Fiesta Friday!

Frequently Asked Questions

How spicy is this margarita?

This recipe calls for 3 fresh jalapeño slices (two you muddle in the glass and one for garnish) which makes it pretty warm on the heat scale.

If you don't like too much spice, I suggest muddling only one jalapeño slice in your glass and using a second for garnish.

Can I make the cilantro simple syrup ahead of time?

You can definitely make the simple syrup ahead of time! Once it's cooled, transfer it to an airtight jar (a mason jar works well) and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Do I need to use simple syrup?

The sweetness of the simple syrup balances out the spice from the jalapeños so this recipe does taste better with it.

What if I don't like cilantro?

If you're not a fan of cilantro, see one of the substation options below.

Substitutions

If you don't want to make the cilantro simple syrup then you can use regular simple syrup, agave nectar, or even honey if you're in a pinch.
