Hay, Have A Seat!

If you're planning a rustic or country themed wedding or party, consider hay bale seating! Using Hay bales in place of traditional chairs is inexpensive, unique, and totally fun!

You can dress hay bale seating up (country chic anyone?) or just keep it simple!

1. Simple Hay Bale Wedding Seating

If you're having an outdoor wedding ceremony that leans more casual, rustic, or country, incorporating hay bale seating is a great way to pull together a theme/vibe and also save money on chair rentals. You can mix in some standard chairs for those wedding guests who might be uncomfortable sitting on a hay bale.

You can cover your hay bales with simple white sheets or gather mismatch quilts to creates a more country feel. If you want a more chic feel, opt of solid bolts of fabric in your wedding color scheme.

2. Hay Bale Seating For A Party

You can also use hay bale seating paired with a low table. Above, I used hay bales as benches with a kids' height table. This was my favorite element for our daughter's cowgirl party theme. This party was in winter so all the kiddos had jeans on but you might want to cover the hay bales with fabric because it can be itchy to sit on.

Did you know you can rent hay bales? Yep!

This is what we did for our daughter's party! We picked them up and returned them the next day and it only cost us $2 a bale of hay! Considering you can fit 3 people on each bale, this is much more budget friendly then renting chairs.

You probably only think "country" when talking about hay bale seating, but it can totally work for a boho themed party as well! To turn country chic into a boho vibe, just cover your hay bale with draping lace fabric and fabric in a boho color pallette like cream, blush, and earthy tones like sage, rust, and mustard.

Tips For Planning Hay Bale Seating

Here are few things to keep in mind when planning to use hay bales as seating for your wedding ceremony or party:

  • Hay bales are best used for outdoor events because they are messy and can have a smell to them. Outdoors should be fine, but a bunch of hay bales indoors might make your event smell like a barn!
  • You can often rent hay bales from a local feed store which is often inexpensive
  • If setting up your seating on grass, be sure the sprinklers don't go on. No one wants to sit on a soggy hay bale!
  • Cover your hay bales with fabric so they are more comfortable to sit on
  • You can also use two bales of hay with a skinny board in between to make "bench" seating

    Thanks,
    best regards
